- Update: The Game Charged For Funeral Brawl, Rapper Could Head Back To Jail
- Thu, 28 Aug 2008 14:11:31 PDT - The Game has reportedly been charged with criminal battery for attacking his cousin at a funeral earlier this year.
As reported earlier, Game's cousin (Robert "Kirky" Kirkwood) filed a police report in July claiming that the Compton rapper punched him at his sister's funeral.
Kirkwood claimed that Game had agreed to pay half of the bill for his sister's funeral but stiffed him when it was time to pay up.
Kirkwood claimed that Game appeared unexpectedly at his sister's funeral and when he approached Game about the funding for the funeral outside the church, the rapper would punch him in the face.
According to TMZ, Game could be tossed back in jail if he is convicted of the battery charge because he is currently on probation for a firearms offense.
In related news, The Game released his third album titled L.A.X. on Tuesday (August 26). The set features appearances from Lil Wayne, Nas, Ne-Yo and Ice Cube, among others.

- Thu, 28 Aug 2008 06:39:49 PDT - Deathrow Records founder Suge Knight was released on $19,000 bail last night (August 28) after being arrested for beating his girlfriend.
As reported earlier, police responded to a call about a car hitting a curb near the Las Vegas Strip on early Wednesday morning and they found Knight standing over his girlfriend with a knife in his hand.
According to The Associated Press, police claim that Knight?s attack on his girlfriend began in the car. The couple were in a heated argument and Knight began punching his unidentified girlfriend in the head.
During the attack, Knight's girlfriend would grab the steering wheel causing the car to veer off the road and into a curb. She would try to run away but Knight pursued her and continued to assault her.
?This is a very large man,? Las Vegas Police Lieutenant Chris Carroll told the AP. ?He was on top of her, actually in the act of violently beating her when the officers arrived, with the knife in his hand.?
Knight's girlfriend was rushed to hospital for minor injuries.
Knight, 43, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and battery domestic violence.
Police say the drugs in Knight's possession were ecstasy and hydrocodone. The rap mogul will return to court on September 26th to face the charges.

- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 20:01:02 PDT - Lil Wayne and Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps will help NBC's Saturday Night Live kick off their 34th season next month.
According to The Associated Press, Phelps will host the show?s season premiere on September 13th and Lil Wayne will serve as the musical guest.
It will mark the first time that Phelps and Wayne have appeared on the acclaimed sketch comedy series.
During his history making performances at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Phelps credited rappers like Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Outkast as his inspirations.
Phelps was the first athlete to win eight gold medals at a single Olympics.

Police said Knight's girlfriend tried to run from the car but Knight grabbed her.

Knight was still in custody at press time. His lawyers refused to comment on the incident.
- T.I. Sets Records With 'Whatever You Like'
- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 12:27:48 PDT - T.I.'s latest single ?Whatever You Like? has reportedly set two records on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.
According to Billboard, "Whatever You Like" made the biggest jump on the chart by surging from No. 71 to No.1 in three weeks.
The single also holds the best digital opening week for a rap track by selling 205,000 downloads.
?Whatever You Like? is T.I's first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist.
The song is off T.I.'s forthcoming album titled Paper Trail which hits stores on September 30th. The set will feature appearances from Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Rihanna and Usher, among others.
- Update: DMX Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges, Rapper Released From Jail
- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 10:20:28 PDT - Despite cursing out a Miami judge who denied his bail yesterday(August 27) , DMX avoided further jail time today (August 27) by pleading guilty to drug charges as part of plea deal.
According to TMZ, DMX plead guilty to trying to buy small amounts marijuana and cocaine in Miami in June. The rapper was slapped with time served and a $483 fine. He is now a free man.
The Yonkers bred rapper had been in custody since being arrested in Miami on August 14th on a warrant for failing to appear in a Phoenix court for a drug releated case.
DMX had tried to bail himself out of jail since his arrest but the Phoenix judge who issued the warrant revoked his bond and he also faced the aforementioned drug charges in Miami.
- Jay-Z Puts Up Las Vegas 40/40 For Sale
- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:17:30 PDT - Jay-Z announced today (August 27) that he will be selling his 40/40 club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount.
According to the statement issued by the rapper's camp, the Las Vegas 40/40 club will no longer operate under his 40/40 brand because the sale is for the lease and not the naming rights.
Jay-Z did not reveal a reason for the club's sale but refereed to it as a ?great business decision.?
The rap mogul would divulge that he plans to open 40/40 clubs in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau in the next 12 months.
Jay-Z currently has two 40/40 nightclubs located in New York and Atlantic City.

- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 07:09:24 PDT - Lil Wayne failed to appear in an Arizona court yesterday (August 27) for a hearing relating to various drug charges.
As reported earlier, Wayne was arrested and slapped with drug charges in Arizona after authorities found marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and drug paraphernalia in a bus he was traveling in.
According to The Associated Press, Wayne's lawyer told the presiding judge Tuesday that his client failed to appear in court because of a medical condition.
The judge said that Wayne is not excused from the proceedings and he expects the rapper to appear in court in October.

A visit to Australia by Snoop Dogg may be cancelled again. According to The Associated Press, immigration officials are reconsidering their decision to allow the rapper into the country.
As reported earlier, Snoop was banned from Australia in 2007 because of his criminal record. Last week, immigration officials lifted the ban but their decision was met with resistance from family and victim support groups who want the rapper's ban reinstated.
?As a result of public concern and interest, [we have] decided that in fact we will be undertaking a more thorough assessment of Snoop's character,? a senior immigration official told Reuters.

David Banner and Talib Kweli will be headlining the second annual 'Hip Hop Live! Tour' this fall.
The tour is slated to kick off in San Diego on September 28th and will wrap up in New York on October 25th.
B.O.B., Little Brother and Rhythm Roots All Stars will join the rappers on their 15 city trek.

Joe's trek will kick off in Florida on August 29th and will wrap up in Japan on October 30th.

- Rap Chart Movement: Ice Cube Dethrones Lil Wayne, GZA Flies Low
- Wed, 27 Aug 2008 05:24:04 PDT - Debuting at No. 1 on Billboard's 'Top Rap Albums Chart' this week is Ice Cube with his ninth solo album titled Raw Footage.
The set, which features appearances from Young Jeezy, The Game and Musiq, scanned 69,760 discs in its opening week.
Lil Wayne loses the top spot and slips to No.2. Tha Carter III shifted 56,800 discs this week, pushing its total to 2,261,500.
Entering the charts at No. 3 is Malibu rap duo Shwayze with their self titled album. The project bags up 46,680 units in its first week spin.
Daddy Yankee slips two spots to No. 4. Talento De Barrio shelved off 16,600discs this week, pushing its total to 42,300.
Posted at No. 5 is Nas. Untitled continues its steady grind as it shells out 15,070 discs this week. After 6 weeks the album has sold a total of 350,200 copies.
M.I.A. slides one spot to No. 6. Kala reels in 10,990 copies this week, pushing the album's total to 283,000.
Right behind her is Florida rapper Plies. 10,830 folks picked up Definition Of Real this week, bringing the album's total sales to 469,600.
David Banner holds it down at No. 8. The Greatest Story Ever Told hustled 10,650 copies this week. The album's tally stands at 123,700.
Three Six Mafia hold fort at No. 9. Last 2 Walk sells 9,030 copies in its ninth week on the chart. So far, the set has sold 216,000 units.
Wrapping up the Top 10 is Wu-Tang rapper GZA. The emcee's latest project, Pro Tools, cashed out 9,200 copies in its opening week.
